Explore, Learn and Have Fun!

Our Happy Hour Beach Safari is a 90-minute hands-on educational experience designed for children in grades K-3 (minimum age 5) with older children also welcome to join. Participants will explore the harbor beaches (access 1 to access 3) while learning fun facts about their surroundings. Designed around the Happy Hour, this program offers parents an ideal opportunity to participate in Will O’ the Wisp trivia night or just relax with a drink or a quick bite to eat without kids.

What Your Kids Will Learn

In this exciting and interactive safari, kids will dive into:

  • Sea Life and Shells: Identify the sea life and shells found on the harbor beaches.

  • Environmental Education: Learn about erosion, marsh grass, the importance of trash clean up, wake zones, why you should always fill the holes you dig, and more.

  • Tides: Discover how tides work and how they impact local fishing.

  • Sharks Teeth: Scour the beach for shark’s teeth (even the rare white ones!).

  • Info about BHI: Learn fun facts about Bald Head Island itself.

  • Beach Wildlife: Discover and learn about the many animals that call the harbor home.

  • What’s under the water: We’ll bring our cast nets and see what we catch- small fish, shrimp, shells, maybe even a blue crab or needle fish!

  • And more!: Every lesson will be a little different depending on what we discover!

Tailored to Children Five to Nine

While we absolutely welcome all kids ages 5 and up, we have specifically tailored this safari to the interest level of kids in grades K - 3. We will teach participants fun facts while allowing them the chance to explore and discover all that the harbor beaches have to offer.

The BHI Fishing Co Explorer Pack

We don’t want the learning to stop with our lesson, so each participant will be sent home with a pack allowing them to remember their time on the safari and continue to discover on their own. Each pack will contain:

  • Official BHI Fishing Co. drawstring bag

  • Polaroid of the participant

  • Official BHI Fishing Co. Junior Explorer certificate

  • BHI Fishing Co. Sticker

  • BHI Spotter Card (see what you can find in the wild after the safari)

  • Magnifying glass

Weather Policy

A little rain won’t lower our spirits! We actively monitor weather conditions throughout the safari to ensure safety. If lightning is detected within 10 miles or if there is torrential rain, we will leave the beach and seek shelter at the closest safe location. Availability

Safaris take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:30 PM to coincide with trivia night from 6:15 to 7:15 PM.
