The Idea

We’re brothers who have been fishing Bald Head Island since we were three years old. Over the years, people would see us fishing—asking what gear we were using, how’d we catch that, what actually works, and what type of bait we use. We loved sharing what we knew and realized there was an opportunity to teach others, but there was one problem: we didn’t have the money for all the gear we needed to start our fishing business. That’s when Jack had an idea—using his artistic talent to design custom T-shirts. We pre-sold them on social media, and to our surprise, they took off. That’s how BHI Fishing Co. was born.

Summer of ‘24 – A Fishing Cart and a Few Believers

Thanks to our first customers who truly believed in us and spread the word, things took off fast. Social media played a huge role, and before we knew it, our fishing lessons were fully booked. We started selling Jack’s shirts at pop-up shops, and those were a hit too. We learned a ton, met so many awesome people, and realized we were onto something bigger than we expected.

The Next Big Idea - Katchin' Kits

One thing became clear over the summer—so many people want to fish but have no clue where to start. Even after learning the basics, walking into a tackle shop can be overwhelming. There are way too many products, and the packaging doesn't clearly explain what it is or how to use it. It's difficult to understand what you need. So, we spent the off-season developing a solution and created our own product line—Katchin' Kits.

Katchin' Kits are proven—we use them every time we fish, really. You will see them at our lessons. Each kit is hand-tied and built to help you catch more fish without the guesswork. The packaging breaks everything down for you—what rod to use, how to tie it on, what bait works best, what species it targets, and the best fishing zones. We even give you more video instructions on our site with helpful tips and techniques for each specific kit.

Our goal is to teach you how to fish while making it as easy as possible.

Partnering with Brands We Trust

Additionally, we’re partnering with brands we trust and actually use. We love Florida Fishing Products and have been using their reels for years—they are incredibly smooth and built to last in the salt environment. Their after purchase support is some of the best in the industry. We have also partnered with Cashion Rods - made right here in North Carolina. Like Florida Fishing Products, these rods are super reliable and are a great saltwater brand for inshore fishing. Just like our first customers, these companies believed in us and we are now selling their products on Bald Head Island at our pop-up shops and online.

Pax King Co-Founder ("The Idea Guy")

Pax is a middle school student and co-founder of the company. Known for his endless curiosity and creative energy, he’s constantly chasing the next big idea. In addition to being one of the instructors, Pax is responsible for website development, content creation, marketing, fishing tackle innovation, and business outreach—always looking for new ways to improve and grow the company.

When he’s not working on the business, Pax enjoys fishing and creating. He’s also an avid skim boarder and active participant in his school’s tennis, swim, and cross-country teams.

Jack King Co-Founder ("The Creative Mind")

Jack is a high school student and co-founder of the company. He leads the apparel design and product packaging, using his artistic and creative talent to shape the brand and product offerings. Jack also focuses on operations and the fishing experience for students, ensuring each lesson is both engaging and educational. Additionally, he oversees social media to keep the brand connected with its audience.

Outside of the business, Jack enjoys fishing, art, photography, and playing golf. He’s also an avid skim boarder, member of his school’s varsity tennis team and Vice President of the Entrepreneurship Club.
